(Zurich, Switzerland)

View of the Grossmunster CathedralThe largest city in Switzerland is served by its own airport, which is commonly referred to as Zurich Airport. This facility is Switzerland's largest international air hub and has been operational since its official opening in 1953. Since then, there have been continuous updates of the facilities, with the complex currently welcoming more than 24 million passengers each year.

Travellers will find that Zurich Airport is conveniently close to central Zurich, which lies just across the northern peripheries. It is found alongside the municipalities of Kloten, Regensdorf, Seebach and Wallisellen, lying directly to the south of Bulach. There are four operating runways and two large terminals that cater for an ever-growing population of passengers.

This facility is a hub for Swiss International Airlines plus several other carriers, such as both Edelweiss Air and Air Berlin. These airlines offer the most flights, but are primarily routed to European destinations. However, Swiss International Airlines flies to a number of intercontinental destinations.

Taxis and Limousines

Taxis are available from the taxi ranks located outside the Arrivals areas of Terminals 1 and 2. On any given day and at any given time, there are at least five taxis waiting for passengers at the Arrivals ranks. Passengers can also book taxis prior to arrival for even greater convenience. For extra comfort at a price, limousines can be arranged.

Buses

More than a dozen bus operators offer coach and bus transportation from the airport. Several buses serve the centre of Zurich, while there are also numerous routes that lead to other prominent districts of the Greater Zurich metropolitan area.

Trams

Glattalbahn trams travel from Zurich Airport to the heart of the city every 7 to 15 minutes, stopping at the main railway station, among other locations around the Glatt valley.

Trains

The SBB Rail Service (Schweizerische Bundesbahnen / Swiss National Railway) makes it possible for travellers to head directly from the airport into the city centre by train. In the morning, trains depart from the airport station for Zurich every 15 minutes or so. However, as the day goes on, departures become less frequent. Nevertheless, a downtown hotel can usually be reached in less than 20 minutes by train at any time of day.
