Although Zurich is known for being a city of finance, it should also be known for its endless shopping. Ranging from traditional Swiss craft and flea markets, such as the Flohmarkt Bürkliplatz and Kanzlei Flohmarkt, to glitzy modern shopping centres, Zurich really does have much to offer its visitors, especially those with time to explore the city properly.

Those looking for the perfect souvenir of their time in Switzerland can expect to find favourites such as fondue pots and cuckoo clocks, along with more stylish alternatives, such as designer leather handbags and jewellery. Of course, no shopping trip in Zurich is really complete without purchase some of the city's legendary Swiss chocolate and undoubtedly the best is sold at branches of Sprüngli, the absolute mother of chocolate shops.




Zurich Shopping: Where to Shop - Zurich, Switzerland, CH
The most notable and busy shopping street in Zurich is the Bahnhofstrasse, close to the train station. Here you will encounter many exclusive stores, plenty of designer clothing and an outlet of Switzerland's very own Swatch watch store.

Beneath the adjacent Bahnhofplatz, shoppers will find a large and rather unexpected subway shopping complex, which is originally named as 'Shopville' and open daily from 08:00 until 20:00 and later on Thursdays, although some of the shops do choose to close earlier.

Close by, Jelmoli is one of the most popular department stores in Zurich and it is worth coming here for the food hall alone, which resides in the basement area. Globus is another of Zurich's premier department stores and a definite shopping highlight, featuring five floors and a rather sumptuous marble floor. Located on Schweizergasse and within the city centre, Globus sells everything from perfumes and cosmetics, to toys and sportswear, and even features its own car park.

A particularly attractive shopping destination is along Augustinergasse and not only is this picturesque lane full of character, but it contains many interesting shops selling books, antiquities and souvenirs. Head across the River Limmat and to Zurich's Niederdorf district and its many pedestrianised streets to continue your shopping trip. Highlights here include some trendy boutiques, music stores and jewellers selling expensive Swiss watches, especially around the Storchengasse area.
